The Crucifixion

My guess is that this work is from the 19th century. The wounds are emphatically portrayed, as one would expect in an oratorio named after them, but otherwise the image lacks the emotionality of medieval versions or the drama of those created during and after the baroque. The grand sunburst behind the cross puts the emphasis on Christ's divinity rather than his role as priest and victim.
